Fashion designer and founder of New York-based brand Katie O”Connor”s been known to eschew the label “fashion” when it comes to her own brand.
But she doesn”t intend to make the same mistake twice.”
I don”t have a political affiliation, but I do believe in the power of clothing,” O’Connors” personal statement on her site reads.”
My clothing is made for people who are in the fashion business, and for those who are not.
“O’Connor”S clothing is handmade and made to be timeless and comfortable, and that”s what my clothes represent.
It”s about giving back to the community in ways that make a difference, rather than the way that we get caught up in the media.”
We don”T make clothes to sell, but to wear.
And when we do, we”re not going to feel comfortable wearing them,” she says.
“When I go out and wear clothes that have been designed to be comfortable and look good, that”ve become a part of who I am, that makes a difference.
“For me, I”m very much a fashion person.
“Her clothes range from affordable, functional and stylish to luxury and edgy, but her message is universal.”
People have a very big part in their lives, whether it”s money or happiness or their career, their family, their friends,” she said.
“They can choose to dress the part or not.
That”s who they are.”
O”Connor has been making clothes since 2012, working her way up to a creative role at designer J.
She was hired by the label as a head of fashion, and has since expanded her creative ambitions.
While there”s nothing wrong with being a fashion designer or designer of luxury or edgy clothes, she feels that it” s time for the country”s fashion establishment to stop thinking of itself as the world”s first fashion designer.
“There is an opportunity for fashion to come out of the closet, and it”ll take time,” she explains.”

And I think the media needs to do a better job of saying that people like me who don” t have a fashion background are not trying to sell fashion.
